Refurbishment of 58 Ablutions, Sir John Moore Army Barracks Folkestone

Project Overview: Swiftsure Electrical were involved in the comprehensive rewiring of 58 ablutions across five accommodation blocks at the Sir John Moore Army Barracks in Folkstone. The project aimed to upgrade the electrical systems and ensure compliance with current safety standards.

Key Features and Installations:

  1. Rewiring and Lighting: We rewired each ablution and installed new lighting, including emergency lighting, to enhance visibility and safety.

  2. MVHR Units: Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR) units were installed in each ablution to improve air quality and energy efficiency.

  3. Containment: White plastic conduit was used as containment for the wiring, ensuring a neat and organized installation.

  4. Testing and Certification: Each ablution was thoroughly tested, and an Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC) was issued to confirm compliance with current regulations and standards.

Challenges: One of the main challenges we were faced with was that the accommodation blocks remained open for the recruits during the project. This meant that only one ablution per block could be closed at any one time, requiring careful planning and coordination to minimize disruption.

Outcome: The project was completed successfully, with all ablutions rewired and upgraded to meet the highest standards of safety and efficiency. The new lighting and MVHR units have significantly improved the functionality and comfort of the ablutions. The issuance of EICs for each ablution provides assurance that the installations are safe and compliant with current regulations.
